Parrot tulips have been cultivated since the 17th century. You sometimes see them in paintings by old masters. The parrot tulip has a large ornamental flower with twisted and fringed petals. Because the flower is quite heavy, the stems can become crooked. Parrot tulips come in many colours and are often multi-coloured. The parrot tulip grows 50 to 60 cm high and likes to be in a sheltered spot, as it is very sensitive to the wind.
